Barry Town United were left feeling the blues after losing on penalties to Haverfordwest County in Sunday's Cymru Premier Play-Off Semi-Final before a packed Jenner Park and screened live via Sgorio's You Tube and online platforms.
Barry, who had gone into the match as strong favourites following an excellent campaign which had seen them finish third in the normal league season, and had secured the Nathaniel MG Cup, had made the perfect start when Ollie Hulbert struck after three minutes. Barry had further chances to extend their lead, with Hulbert firing an effort wide, Michael George hitting a strike over the bar, while now-retired midfielder Robbie Wilmott saw his attempt kept out by the player of the match, Bluebirds keeper Ifan Knott.
Barry were eventually made to pay dearly for their earlier missed opportunities when a long ball from Haverfordwest's Kyle Kenniford reached Dan Hawkins on the right-wing and he then played a one-two with Owain Jones before squaring the ball for former Carmarthen Town and Afan Lido midfielder Greg Walters to fire home to the delight of the enthusiastic and large travelling support.
The subsequent penalty shoot-out will be one that Barry - who also lost a shoot out to Caerau Ely in the Welsh Cup in 2024 - very keen to forget, with efforts from Keenan Patten saved by Knott, while Ben Margetson's fired wide over the bar and, although Barry got one back through Keston Davies, Callum Sainty's penalty struck the bar to fire Haverfordwest into their second Play-Off Final in three seasons.
